About Growing Memories
Growing Memories is a thoughtfully designed, child centred approach to grief literacy that meets children where they are. It creates space for children to explore loss, feelings, memories, connection, and remembrance in ways that are accessible, creative, and responsive to their individual experiences. At the heart of Growing Memories is the belief that children do not need to be rushed through grief or expected to express it in a particular way. The approach encourages curiosity, choice, active listening, and child led expression, allowing children to participate in ways that feel meaningful to them. Chapter One may be explored independently as a complete stand-alone story for those who do not have time to review the full 10-week program. The complete emotional arc unfolds across the seasons of the 9 chapters and epilogue, using nature and the cycles of change, rest, renewal, and growth as gentle pathways for exploring grief and remembrance. Nature connection and eco literacy are woven throughout the journey, offering children opportunities to notice connections between the natural world and their own experiences. Growing Memories can be adapted to different settings and used with individuals, small groups, classrooms, or within existing bereavement programs. It is designed to complement the support already offered by parents, educators, and bereavement professionals. Growing Memories is an educational grief literacy resource and is not intended to replace therapy or specialized clinical care.
